How to Join?

The SGMP membership application is available here as a PDF (Adobe Acrobat) file. You may download this file, then print it locally from your computer. You need to have Acrobat Reader to view and print this file. This software is available free of charge. There is also a Microsoft Word version if you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, but we would prefer you use the PDF file.


Complete the printed application. Planners AND CONTRACT PLANNERS must also complete and return the planner profile with the application. If you wish to affiliate with a chapter, MAIL your ORIGINAL SIGNED AND DATED application, along with your membership fee payable to SGMP, to the membership contact listed for the chapter you wish to affiliate with.

All completed applications should be mailed to Carolyn Barrett, CHSP,the membership chair and not directly to the national office. Mailing your application to the national office will cause a delay in processing the application.

As the only professional meetings industry association specializing in the government market, SGMP offers its members opportunities for professional development through:

  • Encouraging and improving communication, understanding, and cooperation between planners and suppliers through regular
  • meetings, discussions, and conferences;
  • Expanding the knowledge and abilities of planners and suppliers by conducting formal education programs;
  • Aiding planners in locating and evaluating commercial meeting facilities and support services by operating a communications link;
  • Researching, analyzing, and translating regulatory policies and legislative issues which affect governmental meetings;
  • Promoting an understanding in decision-making areas that directly or indirectly impact the scope of operations of the planner;
  • Maintaining liaison activities with other professional meeting planner and supplier groups; and,
  • Providing guidance and advice to planners on all phases of planning, executing, and evaluating government meeting.
